When Legionella levels threatened the safety of a UK-wide industrial client’s building premises, we delivered an effective remediation plan.
A UK-based industrial client providing warehousing and office facilities across the country faced a serious health and safety concern. Routine Legionella sampling conducted prior to the full operation of several premises revealed elevated levels of Legionella bacteria in their water systems. This discovery prompted an immediate investigation by ClearFlow and the client, revealing a range of systemic issues contributing to the bacterial growth.
How we helped
We conducted a thorough investigation, identifying inadequate risk assessments, poor control systems, insufficient water temperatures, stagnant water due to deadlegs and deadends, uninsulated pipework, and the absence of flushing regimes. To address the immediate threat, further samples were collected and analysed. Following this, a comprehensive disinfection of the hot and cold water systems was carried out, with post-disinfection samples confirming the eradication of Legionella.
Our team then undertook Legionella remedial works, including new Legionella risk assessments, deadleg removal, the creation of written control schemes, and the implementation of robust control measures. Finally, we provided comprehensive Legionella training to all site-responsible persons, ensuring ongoing compliance and understanding of Legionella risks.
